Uschi Pomp was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1959. Since 1992, she has worked at the Atelier Augustinum, where she has created an extensive body of several thousand works in oil pastel on paper. Pomp works gesturally – and with both hands at the same time. In each hand, she holds a pastel crayon, which rapidly dwindle under the force of the pressure she exerts, and form a layer over the painting surface. The individual colour layers are modulated, mixed and fused into a dense colour effect
