Overview

The Augustinum Foundation presents the euward every three years. This art award is internationally the most important distinction for art in the context of Art Brut in all its contemporary manifestations. It aims to promote unknown artists and make their work internationally accessible.

From the submissions from across Europe, three winners are chosen by a jury of renowned experts. The winners receive an exhibition of their works at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, as well as cash prizes and a catalogue of their works to a total value of approx. 30,000 euros.

The euward reveals the work of artist who are originally not aligned with the established art scene. Their work arises purely from an inner necessity or shaping by personal and biographical experiences . As a result of their own distinctive artistic practice, they usually achieve neither cultural visibility nor the discourse of public reception.

euward is conferred in order to make this art visible and give it its place in a broad and diverse art landscape. Its purpose is to promote artists who have so far remained unseen and underrepresented in the art world due to their individual disadvantages (so-called handicaps - be they mental, psychological or spiritual) .

The euward's objective is to make the artistic quality of these cultural outsiders visible. Their creations are a vital impulse in contemporary art. Purely social aspects do not play a role in the conferring of the art award.
