Alida Schaap

Alida Schaap
Alida Schaap, born in 1960, lives and works in The Hague, the Netherlands. Since 1995 she is active in "Atelier De Haagse school" in The Hague, an art studio in which mentally handicapped artists can participate in art classes or freely work on her own work.

work:

"energetic necking", 1999,
felt pen on paper and cotton

"the brothel", 1999,
acryl and cotton collage
The figurative work of Alida Schaap is from noteworthy individualism and variety. Her subjects are adapted from her memories and personal experiences. In her work deep emotions become visible; however, she also processes cultural set pieces and stereotypes. For the realisation of her images the use of different, partly very unusual materials and mixed medias plays an important role.
