euward5 Award Winners Announced

14.06.2010, Munich
The winners of the European Art Award were chosen by the jury on 12th June

The winners are (in alphabetical order) Annemarie Delleg (St. Lorenzen / Italy), who works there at GRAIN-Weiterbildung, Peter Kapeller (Vienna, Caritas) and Sigrid Reingruber (Gschwandt / Austria, Lebenshilfe Upper Austria). "The best thing about 'Outsider Art' or 'Art Brut' is that you're not looking for names when you make your choice; you can focus entirely on the quality of the works", explained Arnulf Rainer after the jury session, in which Christian Berst (France), Roger Cardinal (UK) and Leiko Ikemura (Switzerland) also took part.

With about 500 entries from 24 European countries, participation in euward5 was "more European than ever", stressed euward curator Klaus Mecherlein, director of the Augustinum's atelier hpca. "It is surely a merit of the euward that this art is emerging from the ghetto of a narrow artistic circle."

The euward5 award ceremony will take place on 18th November in the Haus der Kunst, Munich. The presentation will also officially launch the exhibition of works by the three winners and the other 23 nominated entrants. The exhibition will continue at the Haus der Kunst until 9th January 2011.

The euward is presented by the Augustinum Foundation, which is also the parent organisation of the Augustinum Group, with activities throughout Germany, including 22 sheltered homes for senior citizens, an internal medicine clinic with a heart surgery in Munich, two sanatoriums for dementia sufferers in Bonn-Oberkassel and Schwindegg (Bavaria), and the Heilpädagogisches Centrum Augustinum (remedial centre), which provides care facilities for young people and adults with mental and multiple disabilities. With its special schools, the Augustinum is also a leading carer of the hearing impaired and children with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. The Augustinum is a non-profit organisation and a member of the Diakonisches Werk - the social organisation of the evangelical church in Germany.

Patron of the euward is Emilia Müller, the Bavarian State Minister for European Affairs. The euward is supported by, among others, the Evangelische Kreditgenossenschaft eG (Kassel) and Sanitas Versicherungs- und Wirtschaftsdienst GmbH (Munich).
