Mario Jambresic

Mario Jambresic
Mario Jambresic was born in Paderborn in 1966 and grew up in Bielefeld. Since 1981, the artist has lived in the sheltered Lebenshilfe community in the Brackwede district of Bielefeld, where he creates his works during his spare time. During the day, Jambresic is employed in a workshop for the disabled, where he performs semi-skilled work, such as cleaning crankshafts.

While he was still at the special school, Jambresic stood out for his special artistic talent and "exceptional visual acuity". Jambresic now actively pursues his artistic training himself by participating in courses at the adult education centre or the Bethel institute's educational programme. He apparently finds the inspiration for his art work when out shopping, on trips to cafés or on occasional solitary rail trips, and, withdrawing to his room, spends every free minute on his art.

The male paper figures drawn with coloured pencils and then cut out have long been part of Jambresic's creative repertoire. After he has completed one or other of these "guards", he always carries it with him, folded up small in his coat or trouser pocket. To produce these pictures, the artist first draws the outlines of the outer clothing and head. He uses normal notepaper - usually already used - in large A4 format, and if the page is not large enough he adds on pieces of paper at the head, trunk or legs. He reinforces these applications with strips glued to the back. When colouring them with the pencils, Jambresic overlays several layers to reproduce the nuances of the surface textures.

When the figures are complete, he cuts them out and folds them up several times to take with him.
