Adolf Beutler
Adolf Beutler, born in 1935, lives and works in Berlin. Beutler has never visited a school. At the age of twelve years he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. He worked there until the age of 54. It was only in 1996, at the age of 61, that he began his artistic work at the art studio in the workshops for disabled persons of mosaic gGmbH in Berlin.

The artist works for long periods, often several months, on his pictures. With a steady, slender outline drawing he covers the whole surface and transforms thus the picture into an object. Mostly the papers and wooden panels get painted on both sides. Objective motifs aren't of any importance for Adolf Beutler.
Probing and searching, he structures his surfaces into manageable units. These units can change: the net-work structure that first covers the canvas develops into densifications, centres and knots that grow, slowly but steadily. An initially clear, linear form develops into structures of strong colour weight that intermesh organically. |
